Yes, down the stairs. The buildings were three stories tall and the kids (usually boys between the ages of 6 and 10) would pile into the cart at the top of the stair case and one would push them down and then hang onto the back for dear life. They'd usually slam into the railing about half way down each set of stairs and have to reset the cart. Somehow, they all managed to stay inside the cart and not get hurt. Craziness.
