I figured I'd link to most of the cartoons I've been doing on my hockey blog. I need to go back and tag a few more, but, this is the majority of them. Two pages worth. No, you don't have to read through all that hockey stuff.

In case you are wondering, I am trying to do a little vs cartoon for all of the remaining games this year. hence all those posts with just a small thing on top.

I enjoyed doing this one. Black and white ftw. The starfish being blue is sort of a joke. She made her pirate black and white. Black hair, white, (no, really, white), skin, and black and white clothes and she got the only brightly colored injury in the game. Go figure.

I'm still figuring out digital painting. I usually use arcylic and I have a very flat, simple style. I'm not good at backgrounds, so Whirled gives me a good, stress free reason to practice. I had to rely on reference photos for this, but it came out well.

Been Busy

Been very busy lately. Like crazy busy! I've also been trying to teach myself Flash. It's an uphill battle but in a weekend I managed to get something walking properly. I don't think anyone checks here regularly, but if anyone does, and you happen know Flash, could you leave some book recommendations in the comments? I'm looking for a good basic Flash book, and something that teaches more complex Flash concepts for later. Thanks!

You can't tell on the small avatar sized sized version, but it's a throne of cloth. The larger version shows more, but the figure got lost once it was scaled down, so I cropped it. I may post the bigger version in another post.

I also made this cute little card front for a forum contest.

I need to water mark it after the contest finishes.

New Start to a New Year

I found a place to swim that doesn't involve small pool full of kids OR enrollment/initiation fees and sweaty frat boys who like to cat call women on their way to the pool. I can get a 20 day pass (non consecutive) to a local pool for a price that, if I go my planned 2 days a week, works out to $35 a month. Yay!

I have to thank the person who posted the Guitar Hero entry this week for inspiring this. I was drawing a blank until I saw that. (and 100% on Guitar Hero is a goal I have never achieved...and I play on easy mode. Sadness ;_;)

Gifts that Keep On Giving

I got a flu like virus that no one could identify for a belated xmas gift, what did you get?

Despite the good times that brought, I managed to get an avatar done for another flagmate. Here is is.

The person this was for has a thing for white and purple. A lot of us have a set of colors or types of clothes that we wear in game, it's almost like a signature. Anyway, his idea was to be shown being caught painting his dog white and purple. I tried a couple of things before settling on this idea. He loved it. Yay!

Phantom Doodle

I did this little doodle yesterday for a forum contest. The contest was about over coming some sort of obstacle, real or imaginary, to turn in your entry on time. I've been playing a lot of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass lately and had just died after nearly completing a nine level dungeon thanks to a Phantom (big fella with the horns), so I kinda had those on the brain.

Eww, only 400 pixels wide eh? I did bump it to 500, but blogger cut the image off. What's a girl to do?

Avatars

I've been doing a bunch of avatars for flagmates lately. Here's a few from my current set of commissions.

The pirates who request these usually ask for something that relates to their piratey persona, or to their real life professions. It's fun to see what I can come up with based of their suggestions and what I know about them based on my interactions with them. Avatars are often used to identify posters, and a popular artist can find themselves suddenly swamped with demands if their art is being used by more popular posters.

I also have made avatars for myself and Mina, both of which relate to hockey:

She plays, so I have her in her gear and I'm lazy and just watch, so I have Sharkie and my Aphrodite doll (a rare in game trinket that I won) cheering the Sharks on. Good times.

In case you are wondering, these are purchased with in game money, called Pieces of Eight, or poe, for short. No real money changes hands. Those who sell to players on green oceans may ask for dubs (dubloons, a second form of currancy used only on "green" oceans. "Green" oceans are oceans that take their names from various types of green.) , which while purchased with real money are not actually worth anything in real life, and are about equal to poe based prices.

I finally have the perfect image for one of these! I made my invitations for my wedding last year. Ink on illustration board then scanned in and printed of some fancy looking paper on my own printer.

Flotsam and Jestam

I have been waiting for my boss to update the store designs on her site so I can post images of the news designs I made this past week but alas, she is slow to update. (I finished them in store and forgot that having copies of the design might be good for my portfolio...I may just redraw them) I will post images when I have them. This is the first time I have ever made designs to be sold in a store. Kinda neat to think about the fact that in 10 years, some kid who got a gift with my designs on it (or the other store designs that I painted) will be hating something I made with the type of passion only a teenager can muster. Fantastic!

I did make this cute little painting for a friend of mine. He has a thing for chickens.

I also promised some doll pictures. These are all made of sculpey and hand painted with acrylics after backing. I now wish I had taken scuplture while in school instead of having to figure it all out myself, but I think I did alright. With the exception of Mr. and Mrs. Ceph, these dolls were made for a contest. All dolls were based of images provided by Three Rings Design and are not for sale. If you're wondering "why scupley not clay?!" it's because I don't have access to a kiln, but I DO have access to an oven. All about easy baking here.

There aren't too many poems about squid, but I found one by Tennyson about a kraken. My kraken is a bit more friendly, but who knows how fearsome he could be when he grows up!

I don't usually use watercolor but I decided to try something new for this. I like to mix media and added some pastels. It wasn't as sucessful as I would like, but it's cute and I tried something new. That has to count for something.

My husband suggested I try something different this time. The rejected kidney was his idea, but neither of us could come up with a good way to show that so I settled on the sad reality of organ rejection. :C
